# Marketplace Fees in Australia Compared: Amazon, eBay, Etsy & More

Marketplace fees in Australia range from almost nothing upfront, as with Temu's advertised 0% commission and eBay's free selling for smaller sellers, to category commissions of around 6% to 15% on Amazon and a monthly store fee plus commission on retailer marketplaces. The headline rate is only the start. Payment fees, advertising, fulfilment, returns and performance penalties often decide whether a channel makes money.

## Amazon Australia

Amazon charges a selling plan fee plus a referral fee on every sale:

- **Plan:** [Individual at $0.99 (excl. GST) per unit sold, or Professional at $49.95 (excl. GST) per month](https://sell.amazon.com.au/pricing) (Amazon, 2026).

## eBay Australia

eBay's structure depends on your sales volume:

- **Small sellers:** Australian sellers with [up to $25,000 in sales over the past 12 months can sell without final value fees](https://www.ebay.com.au/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822) under eBay's free selling experience. Fees still apply to optional listing upgrades and items delivered overseas, and these sellers generally need to use eBay's shipping labels (eBay, 2026).
- **Above $25,000:** sellers move automatically to the **Pro Starter** plan, which has no monthly fee but charges a percentage final value fee that varies by category tier, plus a fixed order fee of $0.30 (incl. GST).

eBay's fees are quoted including GST, while Amazon's are quoted excluding GST. Keep that in mind when comparing.

## Etsy

Etsy suits handmade, vintage and craft supplies. Its fees are simple: [a $0.20 USD listing fee per listing and a 6.5% transaction fee on the total order including shipping](https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035902374-Etsy-Fee-Basics), plus payment processing fees that vary by country (Etsy, 2026). Listing fees are charged whether or not the item sells, and again when a sold listing auto-renews. Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads are extra.

## Kogan and Temu

**Kogan Marketplace** does not publish its commission rates publicly; they are set in the seller agreement. It does publish a [Merchant Payment Processing Fee of 20c plus 1.39% per order](https://help.kogansellers.com/s/article/Merchant-Payment-Processing-Fee) (Kogan, 2026).

**Temu's** Australian seller centre advertises [0% commission fees and free registration](https://au.seller.temu.com/login.html?login_scene=302) for local sellers (Temu, 2026). The trade-off is pricing pressure. Temu's shoppers expect very low prices, so your margin is set by what you can charge, not by fees.

## Retailer marketplaces

Woolworths MarketPlus (BIG W Market and Everyday Market), Bunnings, Kmart, Myer, THE ICONIC, Temple & Webster and Baby Bunting generally negotiate terms with each seller rather than publishing a rate card. ## The costs that don't appear on the rate card

To compare channels properly, calculate contribution margin per order:

**Sale price − commission − payment/order fees − advertising − fulfilment and freight − packaging − expected returns and refunds − penalties − product cost**

The items most often missed:

- **Advertising.** Sponsored placements are close to essential on large marketplaces and can match or exceed the commission.
- **Returns.** Free-return expectations differ by marketplace and category.
- **Performance penalties.** eBay's 5.5% Below Standard fee is a published example. On other marketplaces, poor metrics cost you visibility instead.
- **Settlement gaps.** Fees taken at settlement can differ from what you expected because of category reassignment, refunds or adjustments. Without reconciliation, these errors go unnoticed.

### Which Australian marketplace has the lowest fees?

On published rates, eBay is free for sellers under $25,000 a year, and Temu advertises 0% commission. Low fees don't guarantee profit. Compare contribution margin per order after advertising, freight, returns and the prices you can achieve on each channel.
